Subdued demand environment impacted consumption


'Consolidated net sales (including other operating income) of Asian Paints has declined 2.32% to Rs 8969.73 crore as subdued demand environment due to factors like the general elections, severe heatwaves impacted consumption and on account of price cuts implemented in previous quarter and shift in mix. Decorative Business (India) registered volume growth of 7%.  Home Décor business continued to see gains from synergies with our Beautiful Homes stores. Geographies like Ethiopia and Sri Lanka grew well in Q1 on the back of gradual recovery in these economies while macroeconomic issues persisted in key markets like Nepal, Bangladesh and Egypt, impacting the overall international business performance.

Operating profit margin has declined from 23.10% to 18.88%, leading to 20.15% decline in operating profit to Rs 1,693.77 crore.  Raw material cost as a % of total sales (net of stock adjustments) increased from 45.90% to 46.10%.
