Sterlite Industries shines Metal stocks were in demand today as global metal prices rebounded.
Copper and aluminium maker Sterlite Industries spurted 4.35% to Rs 626.75. It was the top gainer from the Sensex pack. Hindalco Industries jumped 4.26% to Rs 134.55. It was the second biggest gainer from the Sensex pack. On 14 August 2008, the company priced its 3-for-7 rights issue at Rs 96 per share to raise raise about Rs 4,200 crore. Hindustan Unilever advanced 3.73% to Rs 244.85. It was the third biggest gainer from the Sensex pack. On 25 July 2008, the company reported 13.2% rise in net profit to Rs 558.18 crore on 21.1% increase in net sales to Rs 4215.67 crore in Q2 June 2008 over Q2 June 2007. Housing Development Finance Corporation rose 3.22% to Rs 2280.65. It was the fourth biggest gainer from the Sensex pack. On 1 July 2008, the company reported 25.56% rise in net profit to Rs 468.11 crore on a 26.67% increase in total income to Rs 2318.62 in Q1 June 2008 over Q1 June 2007. Bharat Heavy Electricals gained 2.76% to Rs 1715.95. It was the fifth biggest gainer from the Sensex pack.
