Metal shares back in the reckoning

Metal shares edged higher in early trade tracking recovery in global metal prices.

Recovery in metal shares had first started on Tuesday 23 May. On that day, Sterlite Industries had jumped 11.4% to Rs 401.55, Nalco gained 7.5% to Rs 244.40, Hindalco gained 6% to Rs 191 and Hindustan Zinc gained 2.7% to Rs 650.40.

Copper, which made its biggest ever daily gain on Tuesday, held steady on Wednesday while nickel hovered just below its record high hit the previous day. Shanghai copper futures rose by their daily trading limit on Wednesday, with the most active contract rising 4% percent.
